I don’t profess to understand all the internal machinations that are amiss in the region, what I do know is a couple of things:
- Georgia has come along towards a respectable, upstanding entity (politically, economically and socially)
- Georgia is really small compared to Russia in any measure
- Georgia has a decidedly pro-western slant that Russia doesn’t like ( as does Ukraine)
Finally Russia’s position reminds of the 19th century Soviet behavior. I swear Russia still thinks like the USSR.
Anyway, Parek has a good round up on Georgia and The Times (UK) has a very good round up also.
I don’t know but this strikes me as very ominous behavior on the part of heavily funded energy based economy throwing their weight behind it.
This can’t end well.
